Multi-Mission Launcher

Customer Requirement

The MML program is part of the Indirect Fire Protection Capability (IFPC) Increment 2-Intercept U.S. Army program. The IFPC Increment 2-I system is a mobile ground-based weapon system designed to defeat unmanned aircraft systems, cruise missiles, and rockets, artillery, and mortars.

Our similar engineering experience with the SLAMRAAM and Sentinel projects made Strata-G a logical chose for the MML development.

Solution

Strata-G personnel provided the designs and supported the fabrication, assembly, and successful test firing events of multiple missile types. Our MML engineering team also generated production level drawings for the components and installations of our designs.  Strata-G continues to make rapid enhancements for the MML system.

UH-60V Blackhawk

Customer Requirement

The Utility Helicopter Project Management Office is developing and qualifying a UH-60V digital cockpit upgrade kit. This kit is intended to upgrade existing UH-60L aircraft to achieve a common Pilot Vehicle Interface (PVI) with the UH-60M aircraft, meet Global Air Traffic Management (GATM) requirements, and address obsolescence issues.

Why Strata-G?

Our design and analysis experience with other rotor wing aircraft such as the Armed Bell 407, OH-58 CASUP, UH-60L/M Customer Border Protection and numerous other projects made the scope of UH-60L conversion to the UH-60V a perfect fit for the Strata-G Engineering Team.

Role of Strata-G

Strata-G is providing engineering to support the Prototype Integration Facility (PIF) and the industry team in the development of a digital avionics suite for the UH-60L. The Strata-G engineering team is comprised of functional experts in System Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. Strata-G has developed the A-Kit designs and the engineering analyses and reports necessary to obtain an airworthiness release. The Strata-G engineering team continues to be an integral part of the installation team, giving guidance to the mechanical and electrical installation technicians and the technical writers producing the installation instructions and MWO documentation. Strata-G electrical and system engineering personnel are also conducting the aircraft Acceptance Test Procedures (ATPs).

Solution

Strata-G performed the discrete design tasks in an EVM project environment with Strata-G being a major contributor to the IBR and DCMA audits for EVM certification. The milestones of the aggressive schedule were achieved and even surpassed with the early release of the electrical drawing package resulting in an incentive award. Strata-G has generated a production level drawing package and all necessary analyses and reports to support milestones such as SRR, PDR, CDR, and Prototype installation. Strata-G is one of the first companies supporting US Army Aviation to execute the system safety engineering in accordance with SAE ARP 4761/4754A.

The first Engineering Development Model (EDM) aircraft A-Kit designed by Strata-G has been installed and functionally verified through formal ATPs. First flight occurred on January 19, 2017 which was the date planned in the integrated master schedule two years earlier. EDM #1 is now being tested while the EDM #2 and EDM #3 aircraft are being modified.

C-130H/J IMAFFS

Improved Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System

Customer Requirement

Modernize the existing Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS II) to be used on the C-130H/J aircraft in support of the U.S. Forest Service (USFS) and the Air National Guard Bureau (ANG). Requirements included:

  • Increasing retardant carrying capacity up to 3,300 gal (+300 gal compared to MAFFS II) requiring significant weight reduction
  • Increase safety by orienting operator seats facing aft and doubling the crash load rating of the system
  • Address significant obsolescence issues with MAFFS II

Why Strata-G?

Strata-G performed extensive trade and feasibility studies for the IMAFFS; and has all of the necessary engineering disciplines [SE, ME (design, analysis, and understanding of fluid delivery systems), EE, & HSI). Strata-G’s vast aircraft design and demonstration of fluid flow modeling/calculation experience made Strata-G a low risk choice for the development of the IMAFFS updates.

Role of Strata-G

The Strata-G Team was the engineering design authority for the I-MAFFs project. The development tasks conducted included the re-design/modification of 90% of the MAFFS II system, generation of all airworthiness and engineering design verification documents, manufacturing support, assembly support, and testing support.

Solution

Strata-G has successfully conducted design reviews and delivered engineering drawing, analyses, and reports for customer acceptance. Also, Strata-G’s design of light weight/high strength materials to successfully execute a new design that could be integrated into existing systems. The production level drawing package is being used to fabricate the first system, which is scheduled for ground testing late summer of 2017.

SUAS TOGA GCS

Small Unmanned Aircraft System, Tactical Government Owned Architecture, Ground Control Station

Customer Requirement

The Government required design enhancements to the TOGA hand controller supporting the Small Unmanned Aircraft Systems (SUAS) missions. These enhancements include the following:

  • Tough-Pad displays
  • Global Positioning System receiver
  • Additional Operator Human Machine Interface (HMI) devices
  • Pocket Directional Data Loader transceiver
  • Applicable power systems and cables
  • Secondary touchscreen display

Why Strata-G?

Strata-G has the perfect combination of design and manufacturing disciplines and flexibility to design a system to meet the customer’s dynamic requirements. By executing the project with an all-in-one shop efficiency (the Mechanical, Electronic, and Human Factors engineering – coupled with a rapid prototyping manufacturing capability) Strata-G is capable of making changes and generating new hardware to quickly fulfill the customer’s requirements.

Strata-G was the engineering design and prototype fabrication authority for the TOGA project.

Solution

The Strata-G design team, comprised of Mechanical, Electronics, and Human Factor Engineering, used close communication with the government customer to provide iterative design steps to satisfy their requirements and expectations. Using Strata-G’s expert prototyping capabilities, multiple housing and human interface changes have been and continue to be produced for the customer to test the physical operation and feel of the unit assemblies.

SWICE

Smart Wireless Internal Combustion Engine Test Kit

Customer Requirement

The Smart Wireless Internal Combustion Engine (SWICE) SP 3 Test Adapter Set is an essential component of the Integrated Family of Test Equipment (IFTE), Maintenance Support Device (MSD). It provides an interface between the MSD and the vehicle under test. The SWICE SP 3 Test Adapter Set is an improved Army Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) diagnostic technology that will be utilized throughout the Army at all maintenance levels to diagnose and verify the operation of ground vehicles. The SWICE SP 3 Test Adapter Set provides access to vehicle analog and digital diagnostic connectors to accomplish intrusive diagnostics through its unique wireless interface with the vehicle under test.

Why Strata-G?

Strata-G has the electronic testing and kitting experience to produce the SWICE kits with minimum risk to the customer. Strata-G also brings the engineering expertise to mitigate any obsolescence issues that may arise.

Role of Strata-G

Strata-G is the systems integrator consolidating SWICE SP 3 Test Adapter Sets and MSD; and to manufacture, test, and deliver Smart Wireless Internal Combustion Engine (SWICE) test adapter sets to be shipped as directed by the Government. To maintain product when parts are found to be obsolete, Strata-G researches suitable substitutes for an equal-to or better-than equivalent and creates and submits an Engineering Change Proposal (ECP) to the Government for approval.

Solution

Strata-G has successfully delivered in excess of 2000 SWICE kits and has worked with our government customers to correct obsolete part issues.

UH-60L, UH-60M, and HH-60L CBP Updates

Customer Requirement

Update UH-60L, UH-60M, HH-60L conversion CBP Helicopters with fully integrated mission kits including new radios, transponders, searchlights, hoists, ICS, MFDs, Internal Aux Fuel Tank Systems, FRIES, video recorders, moving map systems and others.

Why Strata-G?

The Strata-G engineering team has vast experience in H-60 Blackhawk upgrades. Strata-G is capable of supplying the Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, and Human Factors/Safety Engineering required for the development of the Technical Data Packages (TDPs) required for the different CBP model aircraft.

Role of Strata-G

Strata-G design tasks included the engineering to develop the A-Kit designs and the engineering analyses and reports necessary to obtain an airworthiness release. The Strata-G engineering team was comprised of System Engineering, Human Factors Engineering, Safety Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, and Electrical Engineering. The Strata-G engineering team was an integral part of the installation team, giving guidance to the mechanical and electrical installation technicians and the technical writers producing the installation instructions. The aircraft acceptance test procedures were also conducted by the electrical and system engineering personnel.

Solution

Strata-G successfully developed the TDP, supported the installations, and conducted acceptance testing of the original two UH-60L and four UH-60M aircraft. The customer has since added updates to the UH-60M aircraft and added four additional UH-60L aircraft. Currently, the Strata-G engineering team is developing the designs for HH-60L conversion to incorporate the needed CBP modifications for the execution of their missions.

LUH TIE-DOWN

Customer Requirement

The Government needed the capability to produce a more cost effective LUH Skid Fitting assembly for aircraft transportation. The Government customer requested the Skid Fitting be reverse engineered, a complete drawing package generated, and 83 assemblies produced.

Why Strata-G?

Strata-G has the proven ability to not only reverse engineer a component or system but also work in conjunction with our prototype manufacturing team to conduct a manufacturability review and optimize the design to requirements while minimizing cost.

Role of Strata-G

Strata-G was the engineering design authority for the re-engineering and LRIP manufacturing of the LUH Skid Fitting Assembly.

Solution

The Strata-G design provided a cost savings of approximately $1,500/assembly and doubled the load rating of the fitting through modifications to the existing design. Strata-G also manufactured and delivered 83 of the new LUH Skid Fitting assemblies with the supporting QA inspection records.
